No injuries and heavy vehicle damage were the result of a hay baler fire on Saturday in Greene County.

Sheriff Steve Haupert says at 5:03pm Saturday, a deputy and the Scranton and Ralston Fire departments responded to a hay baler fire at 175th Street and C Avenue.

A farm tractor was heading to pick up hay when the driver noticed smoke coming from the tractor pulling the hay baler.  Once the fire was contained, Haupert notes that the cause was believed to be a mechanical failure with one of the metal bearings in the baler.

No one was injured in the incident.  The Vermeer 605 round hay baler, that was rented by John McCormick from Case IH, was determined to be a total loss and another $10,000 in damages were done to the tractor.
