Greene County Iowa State University Extension is offering the next set of Family Storyteller classes later this month.
Extension Family Coordinator Sue Richardson says the program helps encourage parents, grandparents and guardians read to three and four year-olds. During the free program, children will receive a weekly book to take home along with activities, learn the value of reading and practice reading skills. Richardson points out that the program is fun for both kids and adults.
“Kids, and I think the parents too, both love the class. The kids get really excited, they want to come every week. We had one little gal whose mother couldn’t come one week and she asked grandma to come, and that’s fine too, to substitute. It’s really a fun time for all.”
Classes will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30pm at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, beginning July 20th. Each class includes free meals and child care is provided for those youth that are not in the class. Due to the class size, today is the final day to pre-register for the program.
