Greene County’s baseball team has the rest of this week to prepare for its Class 3A District 16 baseball opener vs. Atlantic in Carroll on Friday at 5 p.m. Merchant’s Park. Greene County finished its regular season with a victory on July 10 and is 19-10 heading into the postseason. Atlantic finished the regular season with 20-12 record.

Junior Reid Lamoureux is a first year every day varsity player. He’s batting .420 with 16 runs driven in and has been the regular shortstop. He talked to Raccoon Valley Radio about going from JV to varsity. “At the beginning of the season Coach (Sawhill) told me he thought I would be one of the pieces to the puzzle out there. Originally, I thought I was going to be playing outfield, but he had the faith in me to play me at shortstop, which is where I played last year. Varsity is a little bit faster of a game than JV, but I’ve been able to adjust pretty easily and it’s been fun out there.”

Lamoureux said his goal for the postseason is to help his team advance to the next round.

Coverage of Atlantic and Greene County begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday with the first pitch at 5 p.m. on KG98. The game will also be streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
