When a team has more than 1,000 at-bats in a season, it takes a lot to raise the team batting average more than a point or two. During Greene County’s Class 3A Region 8 softball victory over Atlantic in Stuart Monday night the Rams were credited with 21 hits in the 16-2 victory in six innings by the 10-run rule. That raised the team batting average a full 10 points from .326 entering the game to .336 after it was over. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is now 356 for 1,059 with 25 home runs, 14 triples, and 63 doubles. For the second year in a row the Rams enter the State Tournament with eight of their nine starters hitting .300 or above.
Greene County meets Crestwood (Cresco) on Tuesday, July 21 at 5:30 p.m. in a Class 3A quarterfinal at Rogers Sports Complex north of Ft. Dodge. The Rams are ranked fourth by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and the Cadets are ranked ninth.
