Guthrie Center’s aluminum and glass redemption center is shutting down immediately and for the foreseeable future. Co-Administrators Gary Randel and Janet Oberholtz say concerns from citizens have been increasing about the stench and unsightliness of the center and the closure period gives them a chance to clean up the site. They’re not sure if or when it will reopen. They told the City Council Monday night that recent cuts to funding have made the center increasingly hard to run. The closure means that consumers in Guthrie County will have to travel to redemption centers in Stuart, Perry or Audubon if they wish to redeem deposits on large amounts of cans or bottles.
