A staple for any farmer’s market is the arrival of sweet corn.
Last week, Deal’s Orchard showcased the prized produce at the Greene County Farmer’s Market. Benji Deal says they plant their sweet corn at different times of the year and explains why.
“So we can harvest it at different times throughout the year, so we can keep people supplied all throughout the year. Because if we plant it all at once, we’d be done and over within about a week or so.”
Sweet corn will continue to be at the local farmer’s market, along with other locally grown produce, baked goods and homemade items. Plus, a meal is served by a different non-profit organization each week as a fundraiser.
The farmer’s market is every Tuesday through September from 4 to 6:30pm on the east side of the courthouse in Jefferson.
