Poor defense again doomed the ADM baseball team Friday in Adel as Carlisle took advantage of a pair of miscues en route to an 8-4 victory over the Tigers.
Carlisle put together a seven-run fourth inning, when the Tigers committed the two errors and the Wildcats sent 11 to the plate, picking up five hits. The Wildcats took a 7-1 lead with the outburst and withstood ADM’s three-run rally in the fifth, which cut Carlisle’s lead to four.
Senior Sam Kornstad was touched up in his 3 2/3 innings, though the defensive miscues didn’t help. The lefty allowed seven runs (only two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Joe Sloss came on to fan the flames and tossed 3 1/3 solid innings, surrendering one run on four hits with three walks.
Sloss also lead the way offensive for ADM (9-20, 3-11), which has dropped two in a row after winning back-to-back games for the first time since the first two games of the season. He finished 2-for-4 with an RBI in the losing cause.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the third on Sloss’ RBI groundout, scoring Jack O’Brien, who lead off the inning with a walk.
Carlisle (18-9, 10-2) then roared ahead with the seven-run fourth and tacked on another run in the fifth, all but securing the season sweep of the Tigers. ADM got its three runs in the fifth on Colin Gavin’s RBI fielder’s choice groundout and Zach Ostendorf’s two-run single.
ADM has only two regular season games remaining: Monday at home against Creston and Tuesday at Pella. We’ll have the call for the game against Creston on K107 and raccoonvalleyradio.com, with first pitch at approximately 7:30 p.m.
