Emily Harney says she was surprised and honored to hear her name called Tuesday evening as she was crowned the 2015 Dallas County Fair Queen.
“I’m a huge fair junkie and I just like being involved in stuff so I’m like, what a perfect opportunity for me to go ahead and go out, go ahead and try it, see what happens. I really just kind of did it for fun and I really was not expecting this at all.”
The 2015 Dallas Center-Grimes High School graduate says she’s looking forward to being very involved with this year’s fair with appearances scheduled through the weekend.
Next month Harney will represent Dallas County in the Iowa State Fair Queen competition, and she says he’s honored to be selected to do so.
“It means the world to me. I have loved Dallas County for a long time and I plan on staying here for a long time. (Dallas County residents) are just such hospitable people and that’s the best part about it.”
If you haven’t stopped by the fair yet, Harney asks what you’re waiting for.
“I encourage people to come out here because it’s such a fun little fair that has tons of things to do and I just absolutely love it.”
