Iowa Central Community College is once again offering a new slate of classes for those who would like to earn their high school equivalency diploma.
Instructor Marla Orfield says the program is for anyone 16 years and older who has not completed their high school degree. An orientation class will be held on Tuesday, July 7th at 6pm at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Orfield states that during the orientation, participants will take an assessment test on math, writing, reading, science and social studies. An individualized program will then be put together based off the assessment results.
The goal is to get participants prepared to get the final exam with HiSET. Orfield notes that HiSET is a new testing program and the benefit of using it is that people can go to any testing center in Iowa. Testing centers around Jefferson include Carroll, Boone and Fort Dodge. The exam itself costs $60, but the preparation classes are free.
The regular classes will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8:30pm also at the church.
