A softball battle of fourth ranked teams takes place at the City Diamond on East Lincolnway in Jefferson on KG98 tonight. Class 3A fourth ranked Greene County plays host to Class 2A fourth ranked St. Edmond of Ft. Dodge in a non-conference clash between the Heart of Iowa and North Central conferences.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams were rained out last night in Nevada and are 18-4 overall and in first place in the HOIAC. The make up date at Nevada has been set for Monday, July 6. St. Edmond was 20-5 through June 22 overall after starting the season ranked number one in 2A. Both squads have comfortable leads in their respective conferences with Gaels up by three in the North Central and the Rams leading by four games in the Heart of Iowa. Both hit the ball well, yet both number one pitchers give up very little. Greene County has a .339 team batting average, which pales in comparison to the Gaels’ .372 team BA. Amanda Lansman for St. Edmond has an earned run average of 1.80 and has fanned 87 batters while walking just 20. Ram pitcher Marissa Promes has an ERA of 1.88 and she has 134 strikeouts and 26 walks.
