The Jefferson City Council met last night in regular session.
The Council approved the second of three required readings to adopt a Planned Unit Development for the Water Tower subdivision, the final plat for the Greene County Development Corporation Business Park 1, a bid from Westech to purchase new media for one of the water softeners at the City’s water plant for $25,415 and a bid from Hydro Klean to install the new media for $6,149.
The Council also set July 14th’s meeting for public hearings to amend the Jefferson Renewal Plan for the Jefferson Urban Renewal Area and a development agreement with JCorporation to build a 44-unit development at the Water Tower subdivision site.
The Council passed a 3-2 vote in favor to pay an additional $43,000 to MHF Engineering for added costs with the northwest utility improvement project with Scharnweber Water Conditioning. City Engineer John Milligan said the scope of the project to extend sewer services to Wild Rose Jefferson and install a new lift station had changed from the original agreement that was approved last fall. Council members Lisa Jaskey and Larry Teeples voted against it citing that they needed more information and where the money will be coming from in the overall budget. Council members Gary Von Ahsen and Harry Ahrenholtz along with Mayor Pro Tem Shannon Black voted in favor of it.
Finally, the Council discussed improving the east alleyway by Doc’s Stadium on the downtown square. Jefferson Matters Main Street Design Committee proposed turning the alleyway into a bicycle-themed space. The main part of the project would be re-doing the concrete patio. It was mentioned that an estimate for new concrete came from Hamilton Redi-Mix and it was for $4,554 for 44 cubic yards. Bret Cranston, owner of Doc’s Stadium, said he would pay $4,000 of the estimate and asked the City to pay the rest since the alley is leased to him from the City. The Council felt it was a worthwhile project and once more information is gathered, the Streets/Sewer/Water/Sanitary Committee will meet in special session to consider it before the next Council meeting in July.
