Jake ChapmanThis year’s legislative session was a long one, continuing several weeks after the scheduled end date while lawmakers worked to find a budget compromise.

District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman of Adel says he continues to be concerned about the tight budget and one time spending.

“I’m concerned about where we’re going with our state budget.  Certainly spending that one time money can be used appropriately for paying down debt and that type of thing but when we start using it for funding Medicaid and those types of things it’s concerning.  That puts us in a position, in the future, where we’ve got to fill that gap somehow.  We’ll see what next session brings for the budget but projections appear to be that we’re going to have another very tight budget year next year, so we’re going to have to deal with that in January.”
