Greene County was a 15-2 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball winner on Thursday vs. Roland-Story in Roland. The fifth ranked team in Class 3A is 9-0 on the season and 6-0 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. R-S fell to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in conference games.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams pounded out 15 hits and they scored eight times in the top of the seventh to leave no doubt about the outcome of what was a 7-2 contest heading into the final frame. Senior Bailey Godwin went four for four at the plate with three singles and a double, and she drove in two runs. Junior Sydney Koch tripled, singled, and had three RBI, with senior Emily Christensen collecting a double, single, and three RBI. Senior Emma Saddoris and junior Carleigh Paup both had a pair of singles. Senior Hannah Onken drove home two runs with a double and senior Kayla Mobley had a single and knocked in a pair of runs.
Senior pitcher Marissa Promes allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks. She struck out five batters as she improved to 8-0 on the season.
Greene County is off until next week due to a scheduled home game vs. Gilbert being scratched. Instead, the Rams will play a varsity doubleheader on June 30 in Gilbert starting at 5:30 p.m.
