The Boone offense continued to roll Thursday night defeating the Perry Jayettes 7-2 in a Raccoon River Conference matchup. The Torreadors entered the game averaging 7 runs per game and they were right on par last night thanks to a pair of key triples and one double.
The night started promising for the Jayettes after taking advantage of two Boone errors in the first inning. Victoria Hegstrom delivered her 5th RBI in her last two games as she singled home Johanna Diw to give Perry a 2-0 lead.
The Torreadors scored the final 7 runs by pushing across 3 runs in both the 3rd and 5th innings. The top of the order delivered all night for Mark Pritchard’s squad. The 1-4 hitters combined to score all 7 runs with Breanna Hunter, Dianna Slight and Carrie Overland going a combined 4-7 with a pair of walks. Slight had an RBI triple in the 3rd while Laura Anderson gave Boone the lead with a two-run double in the third. The Torreadors were aggressive all night on the bases finishing with 5 stolen bases.
Junior right hander Brianna Hunter enjoyed her best start of the season by not allowing an earned run over seven innings while striking out a season high 6 Perry batter.
For the third straight game, Perry starter Emma Olejniczak hit double figures in strike outs finishing with 10 K’s on the night. Olejniczak has now struck out 40 batters over the past 20 innings.
Olejniczak finished with two hits and Kate Whelchel added a single as well rounding out the four Jayette hits.
