Greene County was a 10-0 high school baseball winner in Jefferson at Allensworth Field on Wednesday night over Nevada in five innings by the 10-run rule. Coach Mark Sawhill’s team is 4-1 overall and in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and all four wins have been by the 10-run rule.

Senior Riah Nelsen allowed two singles and did not walk a batter while striking out nine Cubs. He is now 2-0 on the season and has fanned 23, walked only two, and allowed just two hits in 11 innings on the mound.

The Greene County offense compiled 15 hits (13 singles, two doubles) led by Nelsen with two singles and a double, and senior Jordan Challen, also with a double and two singles. Seniors Alex Rasmussen and Jordan Hostetler, and junior Tyler Beger also had two base hits. Rasmussen, Whipple, Beger, and Hostetler each knocked in two runs with one RBI apiece for Nelsen and junior Reid Lamoureux.

The Rams play non-conference baseball for the first time this season when they travel to Winterset tonight. Gilbert is 4-0 in the HOIAC and the Tigers visit the Rams on Friday night on KG98 at 7:15 p.m.
