Perry junior centerfielder Victoria Hegstrom knocked in four runs Wednesday night as Perry picked up their first win of the season knocking off Carroll 8-2 in RRC action. The Jayettes scored three times in the first inning with Alyssa Kruger and Hegstrom providing RBI’s. Emma Olejniczak scored after starting the inning with a double.
Perry put the game away in the 5th inning scoring four more times to open a 7-2 lead. Hegstrom’s three-run double was the big blow of the inning.
Olejniczak continued her early season dominance inside the pitching circle. The sophomore struck out a career high 16 batters while scattering 4 hits and 1 walk over seven innings. Both runs allowed were unearned. The right hander has now struck out 30 batters over the past 14 innings pitched.
Brooke Huntington added 2 hits and 2 RBI, Kruger finished with 2 hits and Katelyn Whelchel added a double and RBI. Sidney Vancil tripled in the fifth.
Perry improves to 1-2 on the season and will travel to Boone tonight to take on the Torreadors. Carroll falls to 0-4.
