Greene County is home to Nevada in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball tonight at the City Diamond on East Lincolnway at approximately 7:15 p.m. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams are 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play and are ranked fifth in Class 3A. Nevada is 1-2 overall and in conference play after the Cubs scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth on Monday night to surprise Saydel, 5-2. Wins have been tough to come by for the Cubs as they registered wins just five times all of last season.
Although the Rams are rated and undefeated, they have not always been dominant. Five of their seven games this year have been decided by three or fewer runs. Nevada hasn’t always been an easy opponent either. A dropped fly ball by the Cubs last July with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed Greene County to close the regular season with a one-run victory instead of a one-run loss. The next night the Rams started their improbable postseason tournament run of playing six rated teams, defeating five of them, and finishing third in the Class 3A State Tournament.
