KDLSRaccoon Valley Radio is in the process of making some changes to better serve our listeners.

This week, we are installing an FM translator.  What that means is the content currently broadcast on AM 1310 will soon be available on a low power FM frequency as well.

General Manager John McGee says this will improve the quality and clarity of the signal for those outside the directional signal area of the AM frequency.

“Our listeners will get a fuller FM sound.  So when we have to lower our AM power at night, you can still get the coverage area that the FM will allow that way.  Ultimately it’s designed to help protect the listeners out there in the communities we serve.  The reason the (Federal Communications Commission) is wanting these FM translators in place is so that in the event of a weather emergency or in the event of a natural disaster, we can communicate with the public.”

With this addition, may come possible interruptions later this week as tower climbers are working on the equipment tomorrow and Thursday.  The AM signal may be at lower power than normal or off the air for short periods of time but online streaming is not expected to be impacted.
