Perry senior Oscar Chavez has been one of the vocal leaders for Perry this season.

The Perry High School soccer team will travel to Des Moines this Thursday for the 1st Round of the 2015 Boys State Soccer Tournament.  The 5th seeded Bluejays will open up with Central Clinton Dewitt at 2:45.  Perry is making their second consecutive appearance at the state tournament and senior Oscar Chavez says this year’s team is little bit different from last year.

“I really feel that our communication has been a lot better this season.  Even though we play a lot of under classmen, we haven’t missed a beat.  They have played well and really stepped up for us this year.  Jesus (Rodriguez) is our leading scorer and he’s only a sophomore.  Communication has been our biggest change this year without a doubt.”

Chavez and the Bluejays advanced to the state tournament following a pair of one goal victories over Iowa Falls and Dallas Center Grimes.

“In close games, the communication becomes critical.  You have to be able to read your teammate and make split second decisions.  When there is down time, you are constantly talking to the guy next to you and making sure you’re on the same page.”
