Poison Ivy

As the weather warms up, people will be spending more time enjoying the outdoors. Learning to steer clear of Iowa’s three poisonous plants can help you to make the most of nature. Guthrie County’s Natural Resource Manager Brad Halterman says you don’t even need to go very far out to find poison ivy, wild parsnip and stinging nettles, they can flourish in unkempt or rural yards. “Definitely yards that are mowed, you aren’t going to see these plants. If somebody lives on the edge of town, next to a field or pasture and it’s left to go wild, you could see any or all of these in those areas.”

Halterman will tell us easy ways to identify the three plants today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
