Greene County has won three of four baseball games this season and all three victories have been by the 10-run rule. The latest shortened game was vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) in Jefferson on Monday night by a 14-4 score as Coach Mark Sawhill’s team improved to 3-1 overall and in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. SH has not won a conference game since the 2013 season.
Daric Whipple improved to 2-0 on the season by going all five innings on the hill. He walked seven batters, all in the first two innings, but allowed only one hit, while striking out five.
The Rams pounded out 16 hits with three each for Riah Nelsen, Jordan Challen, Colton Fitzpatrick, and Jordan Hostetler. Nelsen singled, doubled, and tripled, while Hostetler and Challen each had a double to go with two base hits, and Fitzpatrick singled three times. Whipple, Ried Lamoureux, Dylan McConnell, Alex Rasmussen, and Tyler Beger all singled once as all nine Rams hit safely.
Greene County scored six times in the first after trailing 1-0 after one-half inning. The Hawks scored again in the second and twice in the fifth. The Rams had two runs in the third innings, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth.
After tonight off, the Rams host Nevada on KG98 Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. at Allensworth Field.
