greene county medical center logoGreene County Medical Center is offering a few diabetes educational classes this month.

Director of Care Management Services Denise Promes says they will be at several locations to educate people about diabetes, the factors that cause it and tips on how to prevent the disease.   Promes describes what else they’ll be covering at each class.

“We will have some screening tools there where people can look at a screening tool and see if they are at risk for diabetes at that program too.  So we’ll be talking about pre-diabetes as well as diabetes.  We’re also going to be talking about services that Greene County Medical Center provides to help people deal with diabetes.”

According to the National Diabetes Statistics Report, in 2014, 29.1 million Americans suffer from diabetes and another 86 million Americans have pre-diabetes.

Two of the three classes are scheduled for today.  At 10am, it will be at the Glidden Wellness Center and at 1:30pm, another class will be at the H.F. and Maude Marchant Memorial Library in Scranton.  Then on June 11th at 10:30am, the final class will be at the Walton Woods apartment community room in Jefferson.

The classes are free and open to the public.  For more information about diabetes or the classes, contact Promes at 386-2114.
