As expected, the Raccoon River Conference girls track and field championship came down to Boone and ADM. This time, the Toreadors exacted their revenge.
Boone won the 2015 RRC championship with 149 points Saturday at Ballard High School, denying ADM of a three-peat. The Tigers finished 2nd with 134 points; Perry was 7th with 30.
ADM head coach Bart Mueller said he was proud of the grit his girls showed, having battled for every point with a Boone team he believes will be a top-three team at the state meet.
The deciding factor was the relays, where Boone won four of seven events and ADM missed out on key points by finishing a second or less behind a top-three finish in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 races.
There were plenty of standout performances by the Tigers, lead by senior Kari Dufoe. She won the 100m and 200m dashes, breaking her own school record and dropping her Class-3A leading time in the latter with a time of 25.27 seconds. She also placed second in the 400m dash and as anchor, brought the Tigers’ 800 sprint medley relay team from behind to a first-place finish with a time of 1:53.71.
Senior Erica Baier set a personal record with a discus throw of 115 feet to win that event, while junior Brianna Mueller won the 3,000m run and scored other key points with a 2nd place finish in the 800 and 3rd place finish in the 1,500.
Other notable performances for ADM came from Jenny Wicks, who took 3rd in the 800m, Maggi Bjustrom (2nd in the 100m hurdles) and Sydney Bertman (2nd in the long jump).
Top performances for the Perry Jayettes included a victory for the 4 x 800 meter relay team, Emma Olejinczak and Sidney Vancil placing 4th and 5th, respectively, in the 800m run, Mariah Duffy taking 5th in the 1,500m run and Leah Reuter taking 5th in the 3,000m run.
