Greene County improved to 6-0 on the high school softball season by going 3-0 on Saturday at the Ogden Tournament. The Rams, ranked fifth in Class 3A, totaled 43 runs and 44 hits en route to wins over a trio of Class 4A opponents. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team opened with a 10-6 victory over Boone, then got by Webster City 13-11, before downing Carroll 20-7.

All three games were five innings in length. Marissa Promes pitched vs. Boone and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and three walks. She struck out three.

The Rams had 11 hits and led 10-0 after 2 innings. Kayla Mobley and Emma Saddoris had home runs for Greene County and Mobley also tripled and singled. Emily Christensen doubled and singled and Saddoris added a base hit. Mobley and Saddoris each batted in three runs with one RBI each by Christensen, Sydney Koch, Carleigh Paup, and Jenna Beyers. The RBI was the first of the career of Beyers, who just completed eighth grade.

Greene County pitched Hannah Onken for the first three innings vs. WC. She recorded the win and Promes pitched the final two innings for the save. Onken allowed 10 runs, six earned, on 12 hits and one walk. She struck one batter out. Promes allowed one unearned run on no hits, one walk, and she fanned five. The Rams were charged with four errors.

The offense vs. the Lynx rolled up 17 hits including home runs by Promes and Rasmussen. Christensen, Promes, and Onken each had three hits. Two apiece by Mobley, Rasmussen and Koch. One of Christensen’s hits was a triple, and Promes added two doubles. Rasmussen, Christensen, and Mobley also doubled. Promes and Rasmussen each knocked in a trio of runs while Christensen and Onken each had two RBI. Paup and Godwin had one run batted in.

The game vs. Carroll saw Kayla Mobley pitch all five innings for the victory. She walked nine batters, allowed eight hits, and she struck out one. All seven runs for the Tigers were earned.

Greene County pounded out 16 more hits vs. Carroll to end the day. Paup and Koch each had three hits with two for Christensen, Mobley, and Saddoris. Beyers, Promes, Rasmussen, and Godwin all had a hit. Godwin’s hit was a triple, while Christensen doubled twice and Koch doubled once. Koch, Mobley, Onken, and Beyers each batted in three runs, with two RBI for Christensen and Mobley, and one each by Rasmussen, Ssddoris, and Godwin.

The Rams host South Hamilton (Jewell) in Jefferson on KG98 Monday night. Air time is 7:15 p.m. with the first pitch set for approximately 7:30 p.m.
