CMB scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Greene County 3-2 Friday night in Collins in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball. A much anticipated pitcher’s duel between Raiders junior lefty Brady Stover and Rams senior righty Colton Fitzpatrick came to fruition. Stover fanned 15 Rams and Fitzpatrick whiffed 10 Raiders. The game winning hit was a single to left field on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded and two outs.
Greene County led 1-0 in the fourth on a Fitzpatrick RBI single that scored Daric Whipple, who had been hit with a pitch and advanced to second base on an errant pick off attempt. It was 2-0 Rams in the fifth after Ried Lamoureux led off the frame with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. CMB made it 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth following two infield errors by the Rams.
Hits were tough to come by with Greene County getting four safeties. Jordan Challen singled and Tyler Beger bunted his way on for the other two hits for the Rams. CMB had five hits with three of those in the final frame including an infield single and a looper to center that fell in for a base hit.
The Rams are 2-1 overall and in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Greene County plays host to South Hamilton (Jewell) on June 1 at Allensworth Field.
