The Greene County High School softball team passed its first road test of the season on Friday night, but Coach Tom Kennedy’s team was pushed to the limit. The Rams scored five times in the top of the seventh inning and won 5-2 over CMB in Collins. The victory put Greene County at 3-0 on the season and in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
Greene County trailed 2-0 entering the seventh. Hannah Onken led off with a single. Following a fly ball out, Emma Saddoris walked, and Sydney Koch singled to load the bases. A walk to Bailey Godwin drove in the first run, and Carleigh Paup drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a double to put Greene County up 3-2. Kayla Mobley followed with an RBI single to make it 4-2, and she later scored the fifth run on a fielder’s choice ground ball off the bat of Emily Christensen.
Marissa Promes improved her pitching record to 3-0. In seven innings she allowed seven hits, two earned runs, walked one batter, and Promes recorded eight strikeouts.
Weather permitting, the Rams play in the Ogden tournament today (Saturday).
