Earlier this week we told you about the Every Hero has a Story theme for this year’s summer reading programs and today we highlight some of the events happening with the teen program this year at the Perry Public Library.
Deputy Library Director Misty Von Behren says in the end, it all comes down to trying to win prizes but there’s fun learning happening along the way.
“Their main goal is to earn grand prize entry slips and there are several ways they can do that. One is obviously reading because we want them to read throughout the summer because that helps keep their mind set so that when they go back to school in September they are good to go and haven’t lost any valuable information. So they read and then they get to a short, very short, book review. Once they complete two of those they get to pick a prize from the teen specific prize box. After they do four they get to actually pick out a book to keep for themselves and then each one of those goes into the grand prize entry bag.”
The teen program will also include weekly challenges, game days, a caricature artist and community service projects. The grand prizes for the teens this year include $200, $100 and $50 in Perry Bucks.
