Next year Chris Comito will pitch for the University of Iowa. This summer, the senior looks poised to lead Norwalk to a third straight Little Hawkeye Conference Title. The senior right hander threw a no-hitter Wednesday night spoiling the Perry season opener 5-0 in front of a large opening night crowd. Comito allowed only two base runners on the night while striking out 11. Perry’s best and only threat came in the fourth when Nic Wilhelmi reached on a hit by pitch and Zach Roberts on a dropped third strike. Comito picked off Wilhelmi and enticed a ground out from Blake Lansing to end the mild threat.
Norwalk managed 8 hits scoring single tallies in the first, fourth and fifth innings and two insurance runs in the 7th. The Warriors played small ball all night executing sacrafice bunts and picking up the timely hits. Lead off batter Devin Pirkle finished with 2 hits and 2 RBI.
Perry sophomore Kyle Nevitt pitched well in his varsity debut. The left hander went 5 innings allowing 6 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 5. Janier Puente made his pitching debut as well striking out 4 in his two innings of relief. Puente showcased his strong arm earlier in the night from right field gunning out a runner trying to stretch a single into a double.
Perry falls to 0-1 on the season while 4th ranked Norwalk is 1-0. Perry will head to Roland Story for a varisty doubleheader tonight with the Norse.
