Though close to a million birds could be destroyed due to the avian flu in Stuart, Department of Agriculture officials say the disease poses no threat to humans. Communications Director Dustin Vandehoef says that avian flu has not been contracted by humans in any form. “There’s been no human case of this disease. There’s no infections. Meat’s safe, eggs are safe and poultry products are safe.”
Vandehoef will be our guest today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County to talk about the flu, as the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship oversees the investigation at Rose Acres’ Stuart egg farm. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com
