Friday, May 22nd

A deputy assisted the Grand Junction Fire and Rescue with a medical call in the 400 block of South 9th Street in Grand Junction.

A deputy, the Sheriff and the Jefferson Fire Department Water Rescue Unit were dispatched to locate and rescue two members of a family that were camping and canoeing on the Raccoon River near the Union Pacific Railroad trestle bridge, west of Jefferson, when their canoe became entangled in a brush pile and overturned. Rodney A. Drzaic 19, swam to the south side of the river, while his father, David E. Drzaic 54, swam out of the river to the north side, separating the two. Being from the Omaha area and not familiar with their location, they dialed  E-911 and a dispatcher mapped the call to that general location. Rodney was picked up by a Sheriff’s vehicle along the river bank, while the Jefferson Fire Department Rescue team, in a boat, picked up David from the bank of the river. The canoe and most of their possessions were lost in the river, but the two were found safe and unharmed. The two had stated that they started the trip on the river in Carroll County several days previous to capsizing the canoe.

A deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrol Officer with a traffic accident at Highway 30 and 144 intersection. The Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and Greene County Emergency Medical Services  personnel each transported the drivers of the two vehicles to the Greene County Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident.

A deputy assisted a stranded driver that had run out of fuel on Neola Avenue near 290th Street.

Saturday, May 23rd

A deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of Grant Street in Scranton to a reported fight in progress. All parties were spoken to, with no one wishing to press charges.

A deputy was not able to locate a reported dog running at large on Highway 4 near 160th Street.

A deputy assisted a Jefferson Police Officer with a combative patient at Regency Park in Jefferson.

A deputy located and evaluated the driving of a reported erratic and careless driver on Highway 30 east bound from Carroll County.

Sunday, May 24th

A deputy was dispatched to a possible burglary in the 700 block of Main Street in Scranton. The house was found in disarray with nothing reported to have been taken. It was determined that another family member may have been at the house.

A deputy was advised by the Perry Police Department that they had received an incomplete E-911 call that mapped to a residence in Rippey. The deputy checked the residence in the 500 block of 5th Street and determined that a young child had initiated the incomplete call.

A deputy is investigating a harassment concern in the 700 block of 11th Street South in Grand Junction.

A deputy took custody of a small amount of marijuana that was found and brought to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center by an anonymous male subject.

A deputy was advised of a fuel drive off from the Paton Pit Stop Gas Station. The deputy contacted the  vehicle owner and he stated that they would return and pay for the fuel.

A deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of South 12th Street in Grand Junction to try and locate an  4-wheel ATV that was reported to be driving careless on city streets.

A deputy was advised of four pickup trucks driving recklessly around Grand Junction. A description of the trucks was given, but the deputy was unable to locate them at that time.

A deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of South Wise Street in Paton to help mediate a verbal domestic altercation.

Monday, May 25th

A deputy was dispatched to a rural residence in the 1100 block of H Avenue to mediate a verbal altercation between relatives.

A deputy was asked to check the welfare of a female in the 800 block of East Percival Street in Grand Junction. She was found to be safe and secure.

A deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of State Street in Scranton to investigate suspicious voicemails that were received by a female.

A deputy was dispatched to the 1400 block of Jordan Avenue to investigate the report of loud gunshots. Four males were located and indicated that they were target shooting in the area.

A deputy was dispatched to a reported two vehicle accident at the intersection of 170th Street and O Avenue. A 2004 Buick Century being driven by Laura Mignon Rasmussen of rural Jefferson was southbound on O Avenue, when she stopped at the stop sign and then attempted to make a U turn on 170th Street. The front of the Rasmussen vehicle entered the south lane of 170th Street and was struck by an eastbound 2005 H&H enclosed trailer that was being pulled by a 2013 Ford F 250 pickup. The pickup was being driven by Douglas Dean Smith 35, of Lake City. Damage to the H&H trailer that was struck by the Rasmussen vehicle was estimated to be $1500. The Rasmussen vehicle sustained an estimated $5000 and Mignon Rasmussen was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by private vehicle for further medical attention. Rasmussen will be issued a citation for Failure to Obey a Stop/Yield Sign.

A deputy was advised of a couch in the roadway along 230th Street. Secondary Roads personnel were notified of the location.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
