The 2015 high school track and field season for the Greene County Rams ended on Saturday at the Class 3A portion of the Coed State Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Over the three days (May 19-21)of the meet, the girls placed in three events and the boys in one and several Ram events ended with personal or season best performances.
Leading the way for the Rams was freshman high jumper Megan Durbin, who finished in second place. Durbin equaled her career best by leaping 5′ 4″ on the biggest stage of her young career. Senior Emma Saddoris placed seventh in the long jump at 16′ 3-3/4″ to become a two-time individual place winner. She was eighth in the long jump in 2013. The shuttle hurdle relay of seniors Mollie Sorber, Sarah Sandage, and Eme Johnson, plus sophomore Nadia Fisher, placed seventh in 1:08.24. The shuttle hurdle relay has become the signature event for the Rams as 2015 became the 26th year since 1984 a Jefferson-based girls’ program has qualified for a State meet. The Rams placed 15th in the 3A team race with 12 points.
On the boys’ side, junior Daric Whipple finished his season with a meteoric rise up the 400 meter low hurdles chart. He finished the regular season at 57.3, which ranked him 17th on the Class 3A season best list. At the Class 3A State Qualifying meet in Atlantic on May 14, Whipple dropped his personal best time to 55.87 and he finished second in that meet after entering with the fifth best qualifying time. On Friday, he entered the State Meet with the sixth best qualifying time, and finished sixth in another personal best of 55.29 seconds.
