Several outstanding performances propelled the ADM girls track team to a 7th place finish at the 2015 Iowa high school state track and field meet this past weekend at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, none more so than those by senior sprinter Kari Dufoe.
Dufoe captured ADM’s first individual title since 2003, winning both the 100m (12.70 seconds) and 200m (24.74) dashes in Saturday’s finals. She qualified for those finals by setting the fastest times in Class 3A in both events on Thursday, her 200m preliminary time of 24.59 seconds a 3A state meet record that also broke her own school record, and finishes her career as the best sprinter in ADM history with her name on seven school records.
Dufoe also helped ADM to a pair of 2nd place finishes in relays. The Tigers distance medley relay team of Maggi Bjustrom, Olivia Anderson, Dufoe and Briana Mueller ran a 4:07.49, which broke a 40-year old school record. Dufoe’s 55.5 second 400m split in that relay was the fastest 400m time of the weekend in Class 3A.
Anchored by Dufoe, ADM also took second and set a school record in the 4 x 100m relay on Saturday with a time of 49.96 seconds. That relay team shaved .18 seconds off Friday’s qualifying time, which was good for sixth in prelims and at the time was also a school record. Dufoe was joined by Bjustrom, Sami Schepers and Sydney Bertman.
Mueller also had a notable individual finish, taking 4th in Saturday’s 800m finals with a personal-best time of 2:17.63. She had to pull out of the 1,500m run after three laps due to illness.
Sophomore Jacob West was ADM boys tracks’ lone representative, clearing 1.8m in the long jump to tie for 14th.
