For the second consecutive year, ADM girls track will be well-represented at Drake Stadium in Des Moines for the state meet, which begins Thursday morning.
The Tigers are sending 12 different athletes that will compete in 12 different events, including four relays.
Headlining the group is senior Kari Dufoe, who won the 100m and 200m dashes, and junior Brianna Mueller, who took first in both the 800m and 1,500m runs at last week’s district meet in Norwalk.
Because of how well those two and others headed to Des Moines performed at the district meet, head coach Bart Mueller has opted to rest his athletes. ADM had a light practice Tuesday and will do the same Wednesday.
“One nice thing I feel is that our girls are at a good spot,” coach Mueller said. “Sometimes you feel like, ‘Man we’ve got to get them a little faster, I’ve got to get them in a little better shape,’ and for the most part, the way these girls have been running, the hurdlers, Kari, Brianna, had such strong nights last Thursday, it was kind of like, ‘OK, we’re ready and don’t tinker with it much, just kind of maintain.’
“It’s more maintenance, keep them sharp, keep them healthy. But we don’t have to go and say, ‘OK, we’ve got to do some technical things, change some things.'”
