Legislation that would legalize fireworks in Iowa is still alive in this year’s session.
As we’ve reported, this is an issue District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman of Adel has been working on for the last two years but Adel’s resident State Representative Ralph Watts isn’t against the idea either.
“I don’t have a lot of problem with it. We get some people that are very concerned about fireworks. I grew up in another state and fireworks and the fourth of July was one of the high points of my life. As a youngster I saved up my money just to buy some fireworks and firecrackers for the fourth. It is not an offensive thing to me at all, and I would probably support it.”
Last week the fireworks bill passed through the Senate Ways and Means committee. It is now eligible for debate on the full Senate floor.
