The Greene County Community School District will once again provide its free summer food service program.
Following the success from last year, Superintendent Tim Christensen says lunches will be provided again to anyone under the age of 18 for free for most of the summer at two locations in the County. Meals will be served at the elementary school in Jefferson from 11:30am to 12:30pm, Monday through Friday, from June 8th through July 31st. Meals will also be served at the intermediate school in Grand Junction from 11am to 12:30pm, Monday through Friday, from June 8th through July 31st. Anyone over 18 years-old can eat a lunch for a $3.25 charge per meal.
Christensen adds that money for the program comes from reimbursements through the federal and state governments. There were 125 kids at each site taking advantage of the program last year.
Meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
