The Perry City Council will hold a public hearing in regards to the fiscal year 2015 budget amendment at their next meeting on May 18th.

City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says overall, they did a good job of forecasting the budget.

“When the City and all these department heads are trying to put these budgets together, you’re dealing with those in December and January for a budget that won’t start for more than sixteen months, so it’s like looking in a crystal ball.  It looks like we have been pretty sharp.  The numbers look large, but actually it’s just about 3.7 percent on the adjustments.”

Niebuhr says budget amendments are inevitable each year.

“Most of that has to do with projects, because projects don’t always seem to stay in the timeline that our budget stays in.  So projects tend to go with the calendar year, due to the weather and most of the projects happen in the summer.  When you do that, and our budget year ends on June 30th, there’s still July and August, and there’s still a lot of construction going on.  So not knowing for sure what all is going to happen, to bring that budget within 3.7 percent, I think is an amazing feat.”

The public hearing will take place in the Clarion Room of the Security Bank Building on the 18th and the meeting starts at 5pm.
