Beta Tau Delta of Jefferson invites everyone to a special concert later this month.

Carole Custer says they are sponsoring a jazz concert with the Oatts family and New York City’s Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.  The Oatts moved to Jefferson in the 1960’s and Jack Oatts taught at the high school from 1966 to 1985.  His children, Dick, Jim, Sue and Nancy were all musicians of which Dick is a part of the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.  Jim plays trumpet in the Des Moines Big Band and Sue is a jazz vocalist.

Dick Oatts says he’s excited to come back to the Jefferson, where he spent part of his childhood.

“It’s always great going back to Jefferson.  It’s probably the place that if I could ever find enough drummers that live in Jefferson, I probably would move back.”

The concert will be at the Greene County Middle School gym at 7pm on Thursday, April 9th.  Tickets for the concert range from $10 to $30 and can be purchased in advance from Home State Bank, The Printer’s Box or from Darla Johnson by calling 386-3551.

All proceeds will go back to the youth of Greene County.
