Warmer weather means spring cleaning for many households and according to Perry Fire Chief Chris Hinds, getting rid of unneeded things is about more than just having a clean home.
“The more stuff you have in the house, the more stuff you have to burn. The more stuff piled around, the easier it is for the fire to spread in the house. A very neat and clean house seldom has a fire in it, and if they do they seldom have very much damage to the house because there’s not all the areas for the fire to get started and there’s not all the fire load, as we put it, to spread the fire throughout the house.”
In addition, Chief Hinds encourages people to clean out their garages and sheds because especially with windy conditions like we’ve had this week, fires can quickly spread.
