The Guthrie County Supervisors and Guthrie Center City Council have previously discussed the possibility of the Sheriff’s Office providing law enforcement duties for the City. Guthrie County Board of Supervisors Chairman Tom Rutledge says the current discussion is as legitimate as the conversation has ever been. “I think in past years the conversation has not been as official as it has been recently. We set up a joint committee of several County and City representatives. The needs assessment for the Police Department of Guthrie Center can give an outside, unbiased opinion of what they actually need.”
As the talks continue, no timetable has yet been set on finding a solution to the City’s law enforcement concerns. As previously reported, the Guthrie Center Police Department will be a one man force in eight days, following the departure of Officer Brandon Lenehan.
