A Nevada man was sentenced to five years in prison in Greene County District Court last month.
According to court documents, 20 year-old Berry Arthur Downs pled guilty to two felony charges for third degree burglary and second degree theft and a serious misdemeanor for possession of methamphetamine.
Charges stem from an executed search warrant on September 26, 2014 in the 500 block of East Cedar Street. Officers responded to a report of stolen items from a nearby residence and discovered fresh tire tracks on the grass in the 700 block of Cedar Street which led authorities to where the search warrant was executed. During the search, officers recovered other stolen items, including three vehicles along with drug-related items.
Downs was ordered to serve up to five years in prison for the felony charges and two days in prison for the misdemeanor charge. Credit was given for time already served as deemed by the Greene County Sheriff’s office. Downs will spend the remainder of his sentence with the Department of Adult Corrections. He was also ordered to pay $1,325 in fines along with victim restitutions.
Another suspect involved in the case, Erin Burnie of Jefferson pled guilty to a felony charge for second degree theft and will have a plea hearing on April 6th.
