The Guthrie Center School District achieved their standardized testing proficiency goals this year in reading and math, but not in science. Science proficiency in the district fell from last year, 89.5% to 89%. Figures released by Curriculum Director Judy Bauler show that 86% of students are proficient in reading, 88% in math and 89% in science, according to the Iowa Assessment Tests. Science is an especially strong suit for fourth graders in the district, 100% of them tested proficient. The lowest score in the district found that only 76% of ninth graders were proficient in science. Another downfall being that just 77% of eleventh graders are proficient in reading. Bauler says these results will be analyzed in detail to determine where additional curriculum improvements can be made.
