The ADM boys soccer team is getting geared up for Monday’s season opener at Carroll as the squad looks to defend its Raccoon River Conference Title.
All told, the Tigers haven’t had many full practices together – seven, to be exact, including a scrimmage on Tuesday, when ADM lost 2-0 at defending state champion Norwalk.
The Raccoon Valley Radio microphone traveled to practice on Wednesday to get head coach Bill Shields’ thoughts on the scrimmage and in particular, his team’s adjustment to a new formation, the 4-2-3-1.
Aside from a couple of correctable individual errors that lead to the Warriors’ two goals, Shields had a largely positive perspective on the outcome.
“Overall, I was pretty pleased with what I saw,” Shields said. “It looked to me like we had way more presence, and this is the reason we made the change: we didn’t feel like towards the end of the season last year that we had enough attacking presence. And last night we created two or three reasonably good chances and we curtailed their opportunities, too. As I said, they scored from two individual errors that we talked about and hopefully we won’t make again. So we felt really good about it in the end.”
