Tuesday marks day two of practice for the ADM girls and boys golf teams, which are both poised to have a strong season.

Unlike the girls team, the boys team doesn’t return any All-State golfers from last year, though a handful of returnees came close to making the cut at a tough district competition. Eight of the nine returning boys golfers are seniors, along with sophomore Jake Schumaker, who came on late last season and performed well at districts.

Among those seniors, three are committed to play golf at the collegiate level: Brody Boston at Iowa Western Community College, Joe Vest at Midland University in Freemont, Neb., and Ben Sandquist at Southwestern Community College in Creston.

That combination of talent, depth and experience has ADM golf head coach Chris Goodale saying his boys could put together a special season.

“The boys, they’ve got a lot of potential,” Goodale said. “They’ve just got to believe in themselves and make the game simple. They were working on some things last year where they were trying to do some different things with the ball, and they just need to play the course and make sure they make the right decisions.”

The ADM boys golf team’s first competition will be on Thursday, April 9 at the River Valley Golf Course north of Adel against Woodward-Granger and Madrid.
