The senior-laden ADM boys golf team is in its first week of official practices, but that doesn’t mean the Tigers are just going through the motions.
The Tigers shot their best 18-hole score of the year at districts last season, but finished fifth in a loaded field of teams and did not send any golfers to state. Tigers head coach Chris Goodale said that’s made his guys plenty hungry to rectify that reality this season.
“Oh yeah. They were really disappointed last year,” Goodale said. “The year before, nobody expected them to do anything and we got out of districts and we just barely missed going to state, and they were disappointed. But last year we got thrown in with Creston and Atlantic – at Atlantic – and it was just, they weren’t intimidated at all, but they just got outplayed. We just didn’t have the four players that we needed. We had three great scores. If we could have just thrown one more in, we would have been fine, but it just didn’t work out.”
Last year’s top four scorers, in seniors Ben Sandquist, Joe Vest and Brody Boston and sophomore Jacob Schumaker are all back, along with a solid group of five additional seniors.
The ADM boys golf team’s first meet is on Thursday, April 9 against Woodward-Granger and Madrid at the River Valley Golf Course north of Adel.
