The 2015 high school track & field season is underway for the Greene County High School girls. Coach Kelly Simpson’s team opened the season on Monday indoors in Ames at the 22nd Annual High School Classic hosted by Iowa State University. Several hundred athletes took part in the non-scoring meet.

Freshman Megan Durbin tied for fourth place in the high jump among 54 jumpers with a clearance of 4′ 10″. Senior Eme Johnson placed twelfth in the 60 meter hurdles among 100 runners, and the 4 x 100 meter relay had a top 12 finish in eleventh place among 90 teams with Molly Sorber, Emma Saddoris, Emily Christensen, and Olivia Hansen. Sarah Sandage, Christensen, Saddoris, and Hansen finished in sixteenth place in the sprint medley relay among 59 teams. The Rams had two girls place in the top 25 in the shop put among 86 throwers. Hannah Onken was nineteenth and Kayla Mobley finished twenty-fourth.

Also, Saddoris was twenty-seventh in the long jump in a field of 70. There were 56 runners in the 3,000 meters with freshman Emily Finch twenty-ninth and senior Noelle Gray thirty-first. Of the 118 girls in the 60 meter dash, senior Mollie Sorber was fifty-sixth and senior Hannah Gunn was ninety-eighth. The 800 meter run had a total of 96 runners with Johnson thirty-third and Jolee Wessling thirty-fifth. Freshman Haley Hall was fifty-fifth among 86 runners in the 1,500 meters.

Both the Greene County girls and boys will compete indoors in Storm Lake at Buena Vista University on Friday, March 20. Starting time is 4 p.m.
