The ADM girls track team competed in its first event of the season on Monday at the 22nd Iowa State High School Girls Classic in Ames, an indoor invite, and several Tigers shined.
ADM’s best performances naturally came from its strongest group: sprinting. Senior Kari Dufoe took second place in the 60-meter dash, narrowly losing to Waukee’s Talia Buss by .04 seconds. In the 60m hurdles, junior Maggi Bjustrom took 8th in the field of 99 with a time of 9.79 seconds. Tigers head coach Bart Mueller also had praise for sophomore Sydney Bertman, a sprinter whose results were not immediately available.
The Tigers also fared well in relays, their 4 x 100 relay group taking second in a field of more than 75 teams. ADM’s 4 x 400 relay team took 11th out of 75 while the 800m sprint medley group placed seventh out of 54 teams.
In middle-distance, junior Brianna Mueller excelled. She took 5th out of 96 runners with a time of 2:22.08.
The Tigers continue optional practices the rest of spring break, and will travel to Pella this Saturday for an invite at Central College.
