ADM junior Frank Weiland was thrust into the limelight this past fall when he was named the starting quarterback for the football Tigers. At approximately 6-4, he has an ideal build for a quarterback and a strong arm to boot.
Weiland, who also is a backup forward for ADM boys basketball, is equally as important to a different kind of ADM football team: ADM boys soccer.
Boys soccer head coach Bill Shields was highly complimentary of Weiland’s personal traits. The junior is polite, humble and relatively soft-spoken.
But when the lights are on and it’s time to play, Weiland can channel all the nastiness he needs – and that’s what has made Weiland the perfect anchor for the Tigers’ back line.
“He’s tall and he’s aggresive,” Shields said. “You may not think so, as quiet and pleasant as he appears in person, but he wants to be first to the ball, which is pretty much a necessity if you want that role.”
The team opened practice yesterday, though they are voluntary over spring break. Full practice begins when school resumes on Monday, and the Tigers will scrimmage defending state-champion Norwalk on Tuesday, March 31.
