After spending over three decades as an Iowa State Trooper, State Representative Clel Baudler has more insight than most into the world of law enforcement. He insists that law enforcement has received bad publicity from recent incidents around the country not because they’re necessarily doing something wrong, but because federal employees like Attorney General Eric Holder are participating in race baiting practices.
If body cameras were being used when he was a State Trooper, Baudler says he would have had no problem wearing one. “I would not worry about turning it off or turning it on. When I unlocked the car in the morning and went on duty, I would turn it on and it would stay on the entire day, until I turned it off at night.”
Ultimately, Baudler says he’s not at all against body cameras, but he says the rules surrounding when they’re on, and who can view the footage needs to be ironed out before they are mandated by law.
