Greene County High School junior Daric Whipple is a busy guy, but he’s looking forward to having even more on his plate when track & field meets get underway. For the second year in a row, Whipple had knee surgery following football, causing him to miss all of the 2014-15 wrestling season. He’s been rehabbing the knee, and otherwise working out aerobically and lifting weights, but it’s the competition the four-sport athlete has missed. He’s the Rams quarterback in football, and baseball center fielder, in addition to wrestling when healthy, and he’s one of the hurdling mainstays on the track & field squad.
Whipple narrowly missed state meet qualification as a sophomore in the 400 meter low hurdles and as part of the shuttle hurdle relay. He was part of the 2013 shuttle hurdle relay that ran at the state meet. Some athletes shy away from the long hurdles race, mainly due to its grueling nature, but Whipple told Raccoon Valley Radio he likes the event. “Nobody knows why I like it so much, but I love running it!”
The Greene County boys will take most of the squad to Storm Lake on Friday, March 20 for the Buena Vista University indoor high school meet before opening the outdoor season in Jefferson on Monday, March 30 for the Greene County Early Bird Meet at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
