Todd Countryman is a man living his dream. The Stuart native has been a pro wrestling fan his entire life, and has been running events for Des Moines’ 3XWrestling for the past decade. Countryman is holding a special ‘Inferno’ event this Saturday night, which marks 3XW’s first time performing in Stuart; the hometown of not only Countryman, but also of 3XW wrestler Ray Surber. The event is also for a good cause. All of the proceeds from ‘Inferno’ go towards the Dexter City Park’s ‘Potty Project’ to raise money for new public restrooms.
Countryman says it strikes a nerve with him when people call pro wrestling “fake”. He says his wrestlers are legitimate pro athletes, who put on a great show. “I prefer ‘predetermined’, because it is a theatrical event. It is athletic theatre. You’re running around, falling, throwing people, getting thrown to the floor. There is an element of real danger involved.”
‘Inferno’ is scheduled for 7 pm this Saturday at West Central Valley High School. Bleacher seats cost $10 and floor seats cost $15. For more information, head to www.3xwrestling.com .
